Arthur Nightingale
Leader of the Hex on the Excalibur line; a Protoframe caught between duty, family and distrust of Albrecht.
The weight of leading
Arthur treats deciding — and shouldering the blame for the outcome — as the job itself. The team's collapse at the end of the first New Year shows that leadership cannot be sustained by giving orders alone. Through the Drifter's trust he learns to accept help.
Aoi and Eleanor
His finished relationship with Aoi still carries both respect and resentment. His wish to shield Eleanor from Techrot influence, meanwhile, sometimes overrides her will. Arthur's love for his family grows healthier the moment it stops being control.
His conflict with Albrecht
He may be grateful for the serum that saved his life, but he does not trust a man who turned his team into an unexplained experiment. His hesitation over the reactor decision is not cowardice; it is a refusal to sacrifice people on the ledger of a scientist who has already used him.
