The Story of the Cavia

Lives inside an experimental capsule

To understand the conditions of the Void, Albrecht sent animals into an experimental capsule. The fish Fibonacci, the bird Bird 3, Tagfer and his mate Minn came back from the Void changed: they had human language, heightened awareness, and memory enough to understand what had been done to them.

That gift was also a punishment. Minn was lost; as the last male of his kind, Tagfer carried both grief for his mate and the fear that his line would end. Fibonacci defended himself with arrogance and intellect, Bird 3 with apparent innocence.

Two truths about Albrecht

The Cavia are alive because of Albrecht and became an indispensable part of his plan. That same Albrecht put them in danger without their consent. Seeing him as only a hero or only a tyrant diminishes what the Cavia lived.

NARRATIVE — The Void gave them a voice. The first thing they said with it was to question the name of the man who sent them there.

The Tenno’s standing with the Cavia opens the community’s personal wounds. The assignments are not merely resource gathering; they are about building a shared life without blaming one another.

The wound each of them carries

Fibonacci presents himself as the group’s strategic mind and defends control with knowledge. Calculating danger in advance is his way of never again feeling the helplessness of the experiment. Bird 3 muddles his sentences and seems naive; even so it is usually he who states the group’s emotional truth most directly.

Tagfer’s anger centres on the loss of Minn. The possibility of being the last male of his kind takes his grief out of the personal and turns it into a fear of having no future. The decision Albrecht made for a “greater purpose” is, to Tagfer, the death of the one being he loved. No cosmic outcome justifies that loss automatically.

Why does the standing story matter?

Cavia rank progression is not only access to a shop. At each stage the members open different memories of the experiment and the accusations they level at one another. Bringing resources, the Tenno also keeps the conversations going. The community learns to define itself by the names and relationships it chooses rather than by the task Albrecht assigned.

As Minn’s fate and the details of the experiment come out, Tagfer’s anger does not vanish; it becomes a more honest grief. Fibonacci accepts that he cannot give a definite answer, and Bird 3 that cheerfulness is not the denial of pain. That development is a defence against the Void imprisoning them in the single moment of trauma it gave them.

The Cavia’s story sets a firm measure for scientific ethics in the Warframe universe: even if a discovery helps save the universe, the account of lives used without consent is not closed.

Why can the Tenno understand them?

The Tenno too were exposed to the Void without consent and then used by the Orokin. The alienation the Cavia live as speaking experimental subjects is therefore not wholly foreign to them. Their relations of aid can be read not as rescuer and passive victim but as solidarity between test subjects of different ages.

Even so the Cavia are not the same as the Tenno. Their animal bodies, the loss of a species and their bond to Albrecht are their own. Real empathy requires recognising likeness without erasing difference; that is exactly the connection the story proposes against The Indifference.

What did we learn in this chapter?

The Cavia remind us who pays for great scientific plans. In the laboratories they guard, The Murmur grows; the next chapter examines that army’s relationship with The Indifference.
