Two Loids

The Necraloid known on Deimos is a Cephalon carrying Loid’s knowledge and patterns of personality. The person woken in Whispers in the Walls is the real, human Loid. He was an assistant, a confidant and an emotional partner in Albrecht’s research.

As the threat of The Indifference grew, Albrecht did not keep Loid outside his plans; but instead of sharing his feelings openly, he put him to sleep and left him behind. Protection and abandonment merged in a single act.

The laboratory’s legacy

When Loid wakes he struggles to tell the truth to Albrecht’s daughter Euleria and to the Entrati family. His loyalty, his anger and his grief shape the technical flow of the missions. To reach the Vessels he carries not only the codes but Albrecht’s memory.

CANON NOTE — The text and the quest scenes plainly establish a bond of love between Loid and Albrecht; reducing it to a relationship of “faithful servant” erases the emotional centre of the story.

The Indifference imitates, echoes and creates emptiness. Loid’s love, once accepted, is particular and mutual. That is how a personal relationship becomes part of a cosmic defence.

Why did Albrecht hide the truth?

Guarding himself against the possibility of being a carrier for The Indifference, Albrecht counted everyone near him as a risk too. He may have feared that telling Loid the whole plan would let the being reach the knowledge through him, that his family would become targets, or that an emotional bond would weaken his decisions. Those worries are intelligible; but they remove Loid’s right to choose.

When Loid wakes he carries not only his lover’s departure but the fact that he was not trusted. Finding signs of love in Albrecht’s records does not heal the loss at once. The question is not only “did he love me?” but “why did he leave me behind?”

A life hidden from the Entrati family

Euleria and her family know Albrecht as a father, a scientist and an unreachable authority. The existence of a human Loid exposes the laboratory life he built apart from them. Loid hesitates to tell the truth, caught between staying loyal to Albrecht’s secret and not wanting his family denied.

That tension fits the main theme of the Entrati story on Deimos: family members hide their love behind duty, titles and conflict rather than saying it. Just as the return of real names in place of Mother, Father, Daughter and Son is a kind of healing, so is naming Loid’s relationship.

The Indifference reduces people to reflections and functions. Accepting Loid’s particular story is therefore not merely a romantic closure but a defence of identity against the being’s method.

Loid’s own will

Loid’s worth does not come only from loving Albrecht. He runs the Sanctum, carries the conflicts among the Cavia, and decides what knowledge is opened to the Tenno. In Albrecht’s absence he is the plan’s living interpreter; rather than follow instructions blindly, he questions their consequences.

That will matters against The Indifference. The being imitates people as someone else’s face or function. When Loid defines himself as more than the title “Albrecht’s assistant”, the love between them likewise moves from possession towards mutual recognition.

What did we learn in this chapter?

Loid is more than a list of tasks Albrecht left behind; he is the bond that keeps the plan human. The next chapter gives a voice to the laboratory experiments’ other victims: the Cavia.
